The new year will begin on different moments depending on where you are in the world and what calendar you use. We've got 24 confusing time zones with little rhyme or reason, there are about forty different calendars in use today, and who's to say your clock is 100% accurate? Unless we all use an ultra-precise atomic clock, agree to follow a universal time keeping system and have one unified world calendar, then we can count down the seconds until the new year.

Not to mention that the current year differs between some of these calendars too, so we might not be counting down even towards the same year, or decade, or century, or millennium, and some clocks don't even show the seconds...
Alas, all these perils of the New Year. Still hope you have a good one though. Whenever it is.
