I remember being a kid at the table with the family. Paw-Paw always sat at the head of the table, with Maw-Maw sitting next to him and everyone else seated wherever. All us youngins were carrying on and giggling at who knows what. We were joking about beans, and Paw-Paw started that famous song, “Beans, beans, they’re good for your heart, the more you eat, the more you—”

“Gene,” Maw-Maw interrupted, cutting him off with a look.

Paw-Paw laughed and finished, “—the more you smile.”

That always stuck with me. It's one of my favorite grandparent memories. I like Paw-Paw's version best.
